Overview

Event Overview:

This conference will feature 6 plenary sessions, 24 technical sessions to include 4 presentations/session, an expo with booths, a student poster session and networking opportunities. Monday, April 23, will feature a selection of short courses. Educational opportunities on these topics are difficult to find, especially with the level of expertise that you will receive through the AFS.  Leading experts from the filtration and separation industry are the course instructors.

Additionally, AFS FiltCon will offer a special Networking Event on Monday night and optional tours on Thursday, April 26. Tickets to the Monday night event, will include a cocktail reception, plated dinner, plenary presentation and special entertainment.  The Thursday tour will include a visit to the University of Minnesota Particle Technology Laboratory, followed by a visit to TSI Incorporated.

Exhibitor / Sponsor Information:

We invite you to showcase your company at the FiltCon 2018 Expo!  10 x 10 and 10 x 20 booths are available.  Bring additional exposure to your company by becoming a conference sponsor in addition to exhibiting at the conference.  Exhibitors will receive one full conference registration badge and one additional Expo Only badge with two lunch tickets. Additional full conference exhibitor registrations may be purchased for a reduced fee of $500.

As a benefit of membership, AFS Corporate Sponsors receive first priority in booth purchase and selection at AFS FiltCon 2018.

About AFS:

The American Filtration & Separations Society is a technical, educational, nonprofit organization started in 1987 to provide a forum for exchange of information among engineers, scientists, and technologists in all areas of the fluid/separation field.  The AFS has predicated its existence on the dissemination of information, education, and the encouragement of research.  Membership is drawn from a wide variety of backgrounds, including end-users, marketing and distribution engineers, product designers, research scientists, raw material designers, company management, consultants, academia, and officials of government.

Advanced Nonwovens in Filtration

Do you know nonwovens are the most popularly used filter media in Filtration market? This 4 hour course will give you an overview on how nonwovens are produced, what make nonwovens so uniquely qualified for filtration applications and how to choose right nonwovens for your products. The latest developments on nanofiber and hybrid technologies will also be discussed.

Mon 8 AM - 12 PM

Filtration & Separation Media Use and Market

Filtration and separation media is the heart and soul of every filter, filtration process and plays the key role in virtually every application. The construction of each medium is unique with specific design and functional advantages are all clearly described. This in-depth course covers eight major filtration media categories and over twenty distinctive formats and consistently is one of the most attended and highly-rated of the AFS short courses. A must attend course if filtration media expertise, market information or an understanding of optimum media selection is important to the success of your responsibilities. No one walks away without a course workbook, including space for personal notes for future use. Following the course, Ed always remains available to attendees.

Mon 8 AM - 12 PM

Reverse Osmosis System Design

The design of reverse osmosis treatment systems utilizing spiral wound membrane elements is affected by numerous factors such as feedwater quality and temperature. The quality of the permeate stream is a function of the specific design, and requires a thorough understanding of a number of design parameters. This workshop utilizes a collaborative problem-solving approach whereby participants work together in groups in a casual environment. Data are initially provided in handouts to give the participants the necessary tools, and then a problem is handed out to each participant. They then work in groups of 4 to 6 to collaboratively solve as many as eight problems, one at a time. For each problem, after an appropriate period of time, the problem solution is handed out and discussed.

Mon 8 AM - 12 PM

Introduction to Filtration and Separation Technologies for Post-Combustion Air Emission Control

The course aims at environmental consultants, plant managers, facility operators, environmental scientists and engineers. It covers the basic principles of air emission control by separation technologies for industrial sources. Topics to be covered include: 1. Background knowledge: Energy and the environment; Combustion and air emissions, Partial and complete oxidation. 2. Particulate and acidic gas separation principles for 1) Separation of Solids/liquids from gases: Cyclone, Filtration and electrostatic precipitation 2) Separation of gases from gases: Adsorption and absorption 3. Particulate Separation Technologies and Devices using by Filters and ESP, and Wet Scrubbers. 4. Gas separation technologies and devices for SO2, CO2, NO2, and Carbon capture

Mon 8 AM - 12 PM

Introduction to Solid-Liquid Separation (Liquid Filtration)

This course is designed for one to learn the basic solid/liquid separation (or called liquid filtration) from industrial application perspective. The full spectrum of solid/liquid separation technology, available equipment, and applications will be discussed. Simple underlining principle, applicable testing methods, technology selection criteria and equipment design are also included so one can be aware of options and competing technologies. Filter media, filter aid, coagulation and flocculation are also part of the curriculum to meet your complete filtration needs.

Mon 8 AM - 5 PM
