2017 AHVMA Annual Conference And Meeting - American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association






Event Overview:

The Association also holds an annual conference and retreat in various locations throughout the United States. This conference, accepted as fulfillment of Continuing Education requirements in many states, is the premier source of post-graduate integrative veterinary medical training worldwide. The Association awards scholarships to help aspiring holistic veterinarians attend the annual conference.

The objectives of the AHVMA are:
To advance and educate in the science and art of holistic veterinary medicine
To promote the health and welfare of all species of animals and to extend to the agricultural community and to the community at large the benefits of sound and progressive leadership in the care and treatment of animals
To foster, maintain, and enlarge public understanding of the nature of veterinary holistic medicine
To function as a forum to explore all the modalities considered to be in the field of veterinary holistic medicine
To do all things necessary and desirable to further high standards in the care and the treatment of animals and continuing education of doctors of veterinary medicine


Keynote Speakers

Ihor Basko, DVM, CVA

Dr. Basko graduated from Michigan State University’s Veterinary Medicine program with a special focus in the fi elds of internal medicine, cardiology and bone surgery. He began studies in Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture in 1974 by participating in a UCLA medicial school research project to treat animal paralysis with acupuncture. At the same time, he began studies in Western Herbology with Dr. Sid Golinsky, a professor at UC Berkeley who taught pharmacognosy to pharamacy school students. He then became vegetarian and studied nutrition based upon Ayurvedic Medicine, Chinese Food Therapy, and Macrobiotic cooking for personal use. He later began cooking and preparing diets for his 3 dogs and 5 cats before teaching clients how to make their own dog food.

Dr. Basko joined the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society in 1977 and began teaching acupuncture, herbology, and nutrition to IVAS while he studied with Tsun Yin Lee, an acupuncturist specializing in pain, and taking his series of courses on Electroacupuncture. He has been devoted to the study and practice of acupuncture, Western and Traditional Chinese Medicine Herbology, dietary therapy, homeopathy, trigger point therapy, and other alternative therapies for animals. Dr. Basko is one of the founders of the Veterinary Botanical Medical Association (VBMA), and among the founding members of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association (AHVMA). He is a member of the Research Advisory Board of the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC). He frequently lectures to veterinarians, animal trainers, and animal caretakers on the use of Holistic modalities. Aside from lecturing, he has published many magazine articles, chapters in books and journals, has been a guest on numerous TV and radio shows, and has partnered with a supplement company in the development of an herbal and mineral line of products for pets.

His mission is to provide loving support and healing to pets and their families using the safest and most natural method. He incorporates an understanding of nutrition with the healing principles of Eastern medicine to create a holistic treatment program that strengthens the immune system on all levels. Dr. Basko is the sole proprietor owner of All Creatures Great & Small Veterinary Services, located on Kauai, and at Surf Paws Animal Hospital in Oahu, Hawaii. He also hosts the “Pets, People & Paradise” radio show on KKCR, Kauai’s community radio station, on Saturday mornings from 9am – 10am, Hawaii Standard Time.
