The Future of Environmental Health: A Discussion with Gina McCarthy

Join us for an engaging discussion with Regina "Gina" McCarthy. She combines a contagious passion for climate change with an urgency to take action and has spoken to audiences around the world about the dangers, challenges and opportunities that face our planet and its people. As equally in her element with business audiences and environmental groups, McCarthy leaves audiences informed, energized and inspired that they can — and must — make a difference.

Gina McCarthy — McCarthy is an environmentalist, air quality expert and the former head of the Environmental Protection Agency. She was the face of the Obama administration’s Climate Action Plan which sought to cut domestic carbon pollution, prepare the US for climate change impacts, and lead international efforts to address climate change at the global level. In 2015, McCarthy signed the Clean Power Plan, which set the nation’s standards for reducing carbon emissions from remaining power plants, emphasizing the country’s commitment to domestic climate action and spurring international efforts that helped secure the Paris Climate Agreement.

McCarthy currently serves as a Richard L. and Ronay A. Menschel Senior “Leadership Fellow at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health where she teaches Leadership: Integrating Science, Public Policy, and Political Rhetoric” in the Department of Environmental Health. She has been an important voice in the climate change debate and continues to share her passion for action and change.

Tom Steyer

Tom Steyer — Steyer, who will introduce Gina McCarthy via video, is a business leader and philanthropist who believes we have a moral responsibility to give back and help ensure that every family shares the benefits of economic opportunity, education, and a healthy climate. In 2007, Tom and his wife, Kat Taylor, founded Beneficial State Bank, an Oakland-based nonprofit bank that invests any profits back into the community. Tom also serves as President of NextGen America.
