The American College of Surgeons (ACS) is a scientific and educational association of surgeons that was founded in 1913 to improve the quality of care for the surgical patient by setting high standards for surgical education and practice. From 2012 to 2013, the College observed a year-long commemoration of its Centennial, "100 Years of Inspiring Quality."

Led by current or retired members of the U.S. Navy SEAL Team, this experience incorporates core principles of today’s SEAL training and is designed to foster determination, and help even the most timid participant build skills necessary to overcome adversity in both work and life. The purpose of this event is to:

Communicate the basics of SEAL and NSW training as it is done today

Challenge participants with light to moderate physical exercise

Build unit cohesion among participants

Teach and instill the basics of a complete TEAM oriented mentality among participants

Provide opportunities for natural leaders to emerge in challenging team events

Develop communication skills required to accomplish unusual or challenging tasks

Provide a fun, inspiring, and rewarding experience

Demonstrate simple, yet powerful and effective, physical fitness exercises that can be done from home

The three-hour Bootcamp will include the following activities and tasks:

After the program, a special Q&A session will be held where instructors will answer questions about both the Bootcamp program and their personal experiences being a part of the US Navy SEAL Team. The Torrey Pines Gliderport is the most historic aviation site in North America, with nearly 100 years of flying history! Torrey Pines Gliderport has played a pivotal role in the aviation industry of the United States, and many aviation pioneers had their first flight on the cliffs of Torrey Pines. Today the Gliderport hosts several forms of aviation, which include radio controlled model aircraft, hang gliders, and paragliders. It may be the only site in the world where these three aircraft all share the cliffs in harmony. The Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego is made up of one of the most extensive collections of architecturally significant historic buildings in the country. Over 90 buildings in the Gaslamp Quarter appear on the National Register of Historical Buildings list! This guided walking tour will make its first stop at the William Heath Davis Historic House Museum, which is the district’s oldest surviving structure and has been home to many fascinating people, including pre-civil war soldiers, a German Spy, and Alonzo Horton. The tour vividly recreates the late 1800’s when the city near the waterfront fell into disrepair and the Stingaree (red light) district flourished. Learn about the marketing secrets of the naughty ladies of the Stingaree and discover the haunts of famous former resident, Wyatt Earp. The tour also highlights many of the best Victorian style commercial buildings constructed in San Diego during the years between the Civil War and World War I. The cherry on top of this walk through History is a stop at Ghirardelli Chocolate Factory for an Old-Fashioned, out-of-this-world ice cream Sundae.

Set forth on a ninety minute guided tour of Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcalá, the first of the twenty-one great California Missions, which marks the birthplace of Christianity in the west coast of the United States. This remarkable and significant historical shrine provides an understanding and appreciation of the beginning of Catholicism in the corner of the world, remote from the Mother Country of Spain and yet so similar. Today the Mission, which was founded in 1769 and is California’s first Mission Church, serves as an active parish church and cultural center for people of all faiths who are welcome to visit and relive the grandeur and excitement of more than two centuries of California history and tradition. Next is a one-hour guided tour through Presidio Park, which will highlight the four different cultures that have occupied Presidio Hill: Kumeyaay, Spanish, Mexican, and early American periods. The tour includes a visit to the former site of the Spanish Fort, built in 1769, and the museum galleries.

Both tax and non-tax issues for estate planning will be covered in this informative and timely estate planning presentation by John Scibek, Certified Specialist in Planned Giving and 34-year practitioner in philanthropic gift planning. John will also be available to answer any of your questions following the presentation.

Upon arrival at the world famous Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar, which is best known as the former location of the US Navy Fighter Weapons School and TOPGUN Training Program, Military Officers will escort the group to an actual working hangar where guests will get an up close look at one of the many fighter/strike aircrafts used by the Marines. MCAS Miramar boasts of being home to some of the fastest, most dynamic combat Fighter Squadrons in the world. Amongst them are the famous VMFA-314 Black Nights (featured in the blockbuster movie “Independence Day”), the VMFA-242 Bats, VMS-323 Death Rattlers, the unique Tiltrotor MV-22 Osprey, and the state-of-the-art F/A-18 Hornet, the most superior multi-role fighter strike jet aircraft available!

Next, get ready for a “night landing” at the famous Officer’s Club, where cold drinks and hot delicious food will be waiting in both the ballroom and patio. Enjoy the company of Military Officers and Pilots while they share stories of valor and excitement that can’t be heard anywhere else! Throughout the night, explore some of the locations used in many scenes from the movie “Top Gun” starring Tom Cruise. For those a little more daring, jump onboard the Aerofly FS2 virtual flying simulator for the ride of a lifetime! Experience one of the world’s oldest hunting traditions by flying a trained bird of prey to the glove. Come as a hands-on participant and learn about raptor biology (raptor refers to several species of birds that hunt and feed on rodents and other small animals) and the classic art of falconry. The group will participate in a Basic Falconry Lesson, which includes:

30-minute presentation on raptor biology, conservation, and falconry

Q&A session on topics discussed

Tutorial on glove etiquette

Two free flight session with the two different raptors

Photo time with the raptor in free flight to, from, and on the glove

Simulated hunt with the lure toss

Sixty-five miles east of San Diego lives a premier mountain getaway in the beautiful Cuyamaca Mountains, the charming town of Julian. Take a step back in time to the days of Julian’s beginning, rooted in the 1870’s gold rush, with a one-hour guided tour of Julian’s original gold mines. Experience life just as the miners did, panning for gold at The Eagle Mining Company. Travel through an intricate path of tunnels in the hard rock mine while listening to life tales of the early residents of Julian. In addition to enjoying a boxed lunch in the picnic area outside of the gold mine, each guest will also receive a complimentary slice of apple pie from the famous Julian’s Pie Company. This guided tour begins with a scenic fifteen minute ferry ride over to Coronado Island, followed by a ninety minute guided bike tour throughout the Island. This leisurely bike tour takes riders through bike-friendly terrain, and notable sites that will be visited along the way include the Coronado Bridge, Historic Hotel Del Coronado, Glorette Bay, Naval Amphibious Base, Silver Strand, Orange Avenue and the Coronado Ferry Landing.  After the bike tour concludes,  you may explore the local shops at the Ferry Landing before heading back by ferry.

Manchester Grand Hyatt

Feeding San Diego (FSD) is the leading hunger-relief organization in San Diego county and serves 63,000 children, families, and seniors in need each week. Chronic diseases and health issues linked to hunger are prevalent among those served by FSD, including 32 percent of households containing a member with diabetes and 40 percent lacking health insurance. To reduce the risk and impact of these health factors, FSD focuses on distributing healthy and fresh foods along with appropriate nutrition education.

ACS is teaming up with Feeding San Diego to provide an opportunity for Clinical Congress attendees and guests to give back to the community through the FSD Back Pack Program. ACS volunteers will fill and decorate 2,500 back packs with essential food items that will be later distributed to children and families in need. The registration fee for this program will go towards the cost of supplies, distribution and transportation fees, and other program related costs. Any additional proceeds will be donated to Feeding San Diego. Sign up and help us reach this goal!

Individuals who would like to participate only in the volunteer activity do not need to register as a Guest Program participant. Please fill out and submit the form to register for this event of you are not otherwise registering for any other aspect of the Guest Program.

Local, sustainable, and delicious! Enjoy a 45 minute tour of Dickinson Farm, an all heirloom organic urban farm in the South Bay area of San Diego, and learn about their influence on feeding San Diegans the freshest and highest quality produce. During the tour, guests will have the opportunity to taste the produce and harvest a couple snacks along the way. Dinner will be held al fresco on the farm under the shade of the beautiful pine tree of the historic Wallace Dickinson House. Our family style farm-to-fork dinner will consist of a farm lettuces salad, a seasonal veggie side dish, a locally sourced entree, and desserts–all highlighting seasonal ingredients from the farm! End the evening with some wine education and tasting at San Pasqual Winery, San Diego's first urban winery before we head back!

Architectural critics describe Louis Kahn’s Salk Institute as one of the boldest structures in the world. The Salk Institute was designed to last the test of time, yet have the adaptability to serve the changing needs of the world’s leading scientists. The construction design needed simplicity, yet to fit aesthetically overlooking one of the most beautiful coastal landscapes in the country. Dr. Jonas Salk, developer of the polio vaccine, challenged Louis Kahn to create a facility worthy of a visit by Pablo Picasso, and as a result visitors now come from around the world to tour this modern architectural masterpiece. Partake in a 75-minute guided tour of the Salk Institute and experience this one-of-a-kind work of art!

Perched on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the Birch Aquarium features more than sixty habitats of fishes and invertebrates from the cold waters of the Pacific Northwest to the tropical waters of Mexico and beyond. Visit the Oceanographic Museum, part of the Aquarium, which showcases research discoveries by Scripps Oceanography scientists on climate, earth, and ocean science and has several interactive elements and exhibits. Enjoy both a one-hour guided tour through the Aquarium, as well as individual time to discover the facility on your own. Next the group will explore one of the most beautiful and diverse meetings of land and sea in the world on this ninety minute Coast Walk (walk will not exceed two miles).
