Michelle Robinson Obama

Former First Lady

Former First Lady Michelle Obama will be the keynote speaker at Elliott Masie’s Learning 2017 conference on October 23rd in Orlando, Florida.

Michelle Robinson Obama served as First Lady of the United States from 2009 to 2017. As a transformative First Lady, Mrs. Obama launched and led four key initiatives:

  • Let’s Move!- to address the challenge of childhood obesity
  • Joining Forces- to support veterans, service members and their families
  • Reach Higher- to inspire young people to seek higher education
  • Let Girls Learn- to help adolescent girls around the world go to school

Before becoming First Lady, Michelle Obama attended Princeton University and Harvard Law School. She started her career as an attorney at the Chicago law firm, Sidley & Austin, where she met her future husband, Barack Obama. She later worked in the Chicago mayor’s office, the University of Chicago, and the University of Chicago Medical Center. Mrs. Obama also founded the Chicago chapter of Public Allies, an organization that prepares young people for careers in public service.

Mrs. Obama was born on January 17, 1964. She married Barack Obama in 1992. They currently live in Washington, DC and have two daughters, Malia and Sasha.

Learning 2017 will be held in Orlando, Florida from October 22 to October 25 at Walt Disney World. 

Learning 2017 is produced by a collaborative of 200 global corporations, focused on improving workplace learning and training. Hosted and curated by Elliott Masie, Learning 2017 brings together several thousand learning professionals as they focus on the changing nature of workplace education and development. In previous years, keynotes have included General Colin Powell, CNN’s Anderson Cooper, President Bill Clinton, Apolo Ohno, Captain Sully Sullenberger, ABC’s Robin Roberts, and business authors Marshall Goldsmith, Ken Blanchard and Tom Peters.

John Lithgow

American Actor, Musician, Singer, Comedian, Voice Actor, and Author

Wow! We are proud to present the extraordinary John Lithgow in his one-man theatrical memoir, STORIES BY HEART at Learning 2017. Earlier in the day, Elliott Masie will interview John Lithgow on the ‘Power of Storytelling’ - a key competency in the ever evolving field of Learning.



The Tony®, Emmy® and Golden Globe® Award winning actor offers a touching and humorous reflection on storytelling as the tie that binds humanity.

John Arthur Lithgow is an American actor, musician, singer, comedian, voice actor, and author. He has received two Tony Awards, five Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, three Screen Actors Guild Awards, an American Comedy Award, four Drama Desk Awards and has also been nominated for two Academy Awards and four Grammy Awards.  Lithgow has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and has been inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame.

Lithgow is well known for his television roles as Dick Solomon in 3rd Rock from the Sun, Arthur Mitchell in Dexter and Sir Winston Churchill in The Crown as well as for his roles in films Blow Out, Twilight Zone: The Movie, Footloose, Harry and the Hendersons, Raising Cain, Shrek, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Interstellar. His performances in The World According to Garp and Terms of Endearment each earned him Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actor.

On the stage, he has appeared in many Broadway productions including the musical adaptation of Sweet Smell of Success and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. In 2007, he made his Royal Shakespeare Company debut as Malvolio in Neil Bartlett's production of Twelfth Night. He has also recorded music, such as the 1999 album of children's music, Singin' in the Bathtub, and has written poetry and short stories, such as Marsupial Sue, for children. His work for children has earned him Grammy Award nominations and two Parents' Choice Silver Honor Awards.

He is the editor of Learning TRENDS by Elliott Masie, an Internet newsletter read by over 52,000 business executives worldwide, and a regular columnist in professional publications, including CLO Magazine.  He is the author of a dozen books, and is the convener of Learning 2017.

Host and Curator Elliott Masie is a provocative, engaging and entertaining futurist, analyst and speaker - focused on the changing world of the workplace, learning and technology.

Elliott serves as an advisor to a wide range of government, education and non-profit groups. He has served on the Board of Trustees of Skidmore College, as a member of FIRST Robotics Board of Directors and the CIA University Board of Visitors. He has served as a pro-bono advisor to the Department of Defense and on the White House Advisory Council on Expanding Learning Opportunities.

Elliott is known as a highly approachable speaker and trainer, blending humor, applicable stories of best practice and high levels of audience involvement. Over the past thirty-five years, he has presented programs, courses and speeches to over 2,100,000 professionals around the world. He lives in Saratoga Springs, owns thoroughbred horses, and is a producer/investor in Broadway shows including the TONY Award winning Kinky Boots, An American in Paris as well as AnastasiaThe Play that Goes WrongIndecent and The Great Comet.
