From Saturday, August 15th through Sunday, August 16th La Cocina will join The Midway and Noise Pop in hosting our 7th Annual Street Food Festival, this year at Forest City’s iconic Pier 70 location in San Francisco’s Dogpatch neighborhood. From the site where the Transbay Tunnel was built, we invite you to join over 100 owner-operated food businesses representing the best of the Bay for a free-to-enter celebration of hard work, well-made food and the vibrant and inclusive food economy that we all dream of.
When we first set out to host this festival, it was in direct response to the food events that we, food industry lifetime professionals, had been going to our whole lives. It was a frustration with chafing dish tasting opportunities and wine glasses worn around your neck. It was a deep dissatisfaction in not seeing local vendors represented, and, when they were, to not find inclusive places where you would get a feel for the city you were in. Most importantly, in thinking about food in San Francisco, we dreamed of a street we could walk down, where we could see people cooking and where we would want to eat everything that we saw. For this year’s festival, we believe that we have arrived at that magical place.
The San Francisco Street Food Festival features the participant businesses of La Cocina, a groundbreaking food business incubator that has been serving the Bay Area since 2005. In collaboration with Noise Pop and The Midway, this year’s festival will also feature a rotating selection of the minds, hands and palates of the people that make San Francisco the best food city in this country, if not the world. These are the cooks and entrepreneurs, the dreamers and the doers, who put their taste to the test everyday and aspire to share something sincere with everyone they meet. They are who make us smile, they are the ones who make us hunger for more, and they are the ones who inspire us. We can’t wait for you to taste that too.
