Keynote Speakers

Jennifer Scandariato

Director

iCIMS

Are you being asked to shorten your testing timelines? Do you feel pressured to increase your test automation coverage but don’t have the time, staff, or budget? How do you as a leader upgrade your team’s skills and technical abilities and still meet your daily release deliverables—without bringing in external resources? Join Jennifer Scandariato as she shares her journey in transforming her company’s QA department into a test engineering center of excellence, where manual testers are now automation engineers who apply automation technologies to expedite and streamline the testing efforts. Their transformation impacted behavior, garnered respect, and increased team quality, while her test labs group—specializing in performance, security, accessibility, and localization efforts—stabilized deliveries. Jennifer shares step-by-step strategies and lessons learned about how she invested in her people by creating new job paths and introducing boot camps for training—all while advancing her department’s ability to accelerate application delivery. It’s time for everyone on your team to get into the testing fast lane.

Jennifer Scandariato is the director of test engineering and leads the Women in Technology initiative at iCIMS, the leading provider of innovative software-as-a-service talent acquisition solutions. Jennifer has more than twenty-one years of experience developing technical solutions to drive growth and profitability while increasing customer satisfaction through high quality and overall engineering effectiveness. She is a frequent keynote speaker at schools, as well as women and leadership conferences in the New York metropolitan area.

Geoff Meyer

Architect

Dell EMC

After its highly hyped introduction decades ago and followed by a long, quiet “winter,” artificial intelligence (AI) has slowly crept back into our consciousness. While our Siri and Alexa assistants entertain us, machine learning (ML) has brought new conveniences into our lives with solutions including Nest and Netflix. Today, AI brings us to the tantalizing brink of the autonomous vehicle. The sea change of this 4th Industrial Revolution has begun to disrupt industry after industry. The emerging capabilities of these fascinating machines demand our attention as AI starts to be applied in ways that directly affect our workplaces. And the test community will not be immune. Geoff Meyer explores industry-wide applications of analytics and machine learning to testing, and shares an in-depth view into how this next generation of automation is being used to optimize test and IT operations. Geoff identifies opportunities for the application of AI across the engineering and test landscape, ranging from high-value test cases and to dynamically generated regression test suites. Most importantly, Geoff provides tips to improve your skillset—and your mindset—so you will eagerly embrace the application of AI/ML in your test engineering and IT operations.

A test architect in the Dell EMC infrastructure solutions group, Geoff Meyer has more than thirty years of industry experience as a software developer, manager, program manager, and director. Geoff oversees the test strategy and architecture for more than 400 software and hardware testers across India, Taiwan, and the United States. He leads initiatives in continuous testing, predictive analytics, and infrastructure as a service (IaaS). Outside of work, Geoff is a member of the Agile Austin community, contributor to the Agile and STAR conferences, and an active mentor to veterans participating in the Vets4Quality.org program, which provides an on-ramp to a career in software quality assurance.

Rob Sabourin

AmiBug.com

Throughout the years, Lightning Talks have been a popular part of the STAR conferences. If you’re not familiar with the concept, Lightning Talks consists of a series of five-minute talks by different speakers within one presentation period. Lightning Talks are the opportunity for speakers to deliver their single biggest bang-for-the-buck idea in a rapid-fire presentation. And now, lightning has struck the STAR keynotes. Some of the best-known experts in testing will step up to the podium and give you their best shot of lightning. Get multiple keynote presentations for the price of one—and have some fun at the same time.

Rob Sabourin has more than thirty-three years of management experience leading teams of software development professionals. A highly-respected member of the software engineering community, Rob has managed, trained, mentored, and coached hundreds of top professionals in the field. He frequently speaks at conferences and writes on software engineering, SQA, testing, management, and internationalization. Rob authored I am a Bug!, the popular software testing children's book; works as an adjunct professor of software engineering at McGill University; and serves as the principal consultant (and president/janitor) of AmiBug.Com, Inc.
