Keynote Speakers

Guido van Tartwijk

CEO Tridonic Austria

Lighting has come a long way since the invention of electrical light. In ever-shorter intervals, new standards are proposed: lm/W improvements have, by and large, lost their relevance, color rendering index values above 90 are becoming common practice, and digital dimming and controls is the next rage. Perhaps the most visible barrier for further progress is the risk for a Babylonian confusion in control protocols and interfaces, which is already today making life complicated for end-users and site-managers. We will discuss a set of fundamental principles on which the Internet of Light should be built to minimize this confusion, and illustrate this by a variety of applications that transcend the Operational Technology domain where Lighting has been positioned to date, showing a joint way forward of Lighting and Building- and Site- Management Systems.

Michael Pawlyn

Architect

Michael Pawlyn established his architectural design firm Exploration in 2007 and has built a reputation as a thought leader in biomimicry. He has lectured internationally on biomimicry and innovative approaches to sustainability. In 2007 Michael Pawlyn delivered a talk at Google’s annual ‘Zeitgeist’ conference and, in 2011, became one of only a small handful of architects to have a talk posted on TED.com. In the same year, his book Biomimicry in Architecture was published by the Royal Institute of British Architects. Michael gave the opening keynote at the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) event in Berlin in 2014 and received very positive feedback. Since then he has written a second edition of his book Biomimicry in Architecture which included a new chapter specifically on light and what we can learn from biological adaptations that do amazing things with light.
