Lorraine Bolsinger

Vice President, XLP GE

Be Big. Be Bold. Be an Engineer: As engineers, we anchor our strength and confidence in technical know-how. Technical degrees provide skills—clear thinking, systems thinking, an outcome orientation—essential for executive leadership. We gain confidence by taking on new challenges and risks early in our careers. Always look for roles, both within and beyond your domain, that are outside your comfort zone—you’ll learn more, faster. Be on the lookout for people who want to help you grow. You possess far more capacity than you realize. If you don’t have an uneasy feeling in the pit of your stomach, choose a bigger challenge. When we stretch, we learn. We transmit that confidence to our teams. And we empower them to win too.

Lorraine A. Bolsinger was named Vice President, GE Corporate Leadership Acceleration Program in January 2016. She is responsible for the design and delivery of the corporate-wide program to develop executive leadership for the company. Prior to this role, she was President and CEO of GE Power’ s Distributed Power business, a leading provider of power equipment and services, with over 5,000 people worldwide. In February ’17 she launched the GE-wide initiative to have 20,000 women in technical roles by 2020.

Lorraine joined GE in 1981 on an early career development program in marketing and sales of energy products. She held progressively larger roles in product management, sales and marketing across GE Power, Aerospace, and Aviation, serving such diverse industries and technologies as space & defense, power generation, oil and gas, marine, and aviation for both military and civil markets. In 1999, she was appointed a company officer in the position of Vice President, GE Aviation Services Product Management.

She proceeded to the position of Vice President, Aviation Sales, and in 2003 was named Chief Marketing Officer for Aviation. In 2005 she launched GE’s growth and environmental initiative, ecomagination™, growing revenues to $17B and reducing greenhouse gasses by 13 percent in three years. In 2008, she became President & CEO of GE Aviation Systems, a provider of electrical power, avionics, actuation and other systems to aircraft manufacturers and operators. She is a member of GE’s Corporate Executive Council and a member of the Board of Trustees of Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Lorraine earned a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. She is married to Brien and has two children, Kimberly and Christopher.

Mary Petryszyn

Sector Vice President and GM Northrop Grumman Corporation

“Unleashing Discovery” will focus on a woman’s journey in the traditionally male-dominated field of engineering. Mary Petryszyn will use anecdotes and examples from her own career with a focus on trailblazing, mentoring and performance. She will expand upon the narrative by relating her experiences through the prism of a global vision and emphasize both the unique challenges and commonalities faced by women across the world. Finally, Mary will connect to the careers of her female colleagues who are working on NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope. JWST will look back in time almost to the moment of the Big Bang itself while unleashing a new era of discovery without parallel in astrophysics.

Mary D. Petryszyn is sector vice president and general manager of the Land and Avionics C4ISR division for Northrop Grumman’s Mission Systems sector, a leading global provider, manufacturer and integrator of advanced, secure and agile software-defined systems and solutions.

In this role, Petryszyn is responsible for leading overall growth and program activities for the Land & Avionics C4ISR division, which serves warfighters and customers with advanced sensors; aircraft survivability equipment; cockpits; avionics, targeting, communications and intelligence systems; multi-spectral electronic warfare systems; air defense capabilities; and global mission solutions.

Most recently, Petryszyn was vice president of Global Strategy and Mission Solutions at Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems, where she led sector strategy development, customer engagement, business development and significant global captures.

Before joining Northrop Grumman, Petryszyn was responsible for worldwide mergers and acquisitions for Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems. Previously, Petryszyn was vice president of the Civil Security and Response business area, where she led programs in chemical/biological/radiation/nuclear/explosives detection, maritime surveillance and global decision support systems. She has worked around the world in engineering, program management, business development and strategy, holding various assignments of increasing responsibility at Singer-Link, Hughes Aircraft Company and Raytheon.

Petryszyn has extensive international business experience, having worked with business and government leaders in markets such as Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Greece, India, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Republic of Korea, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Petryszyn serves on the Corporate Partnership Council for the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and was appointed to serve on the 2011 Civil Air Patrol Diversity Committee. She is a fellow life member of SWE and is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Petryszyn received the prestigious SWE Global Leader Award in 2015 and the Woman of Distinction Award from Mile Hi Girl Scout Council. She has served on numerous science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) related advisory boards.

Petryszyn graduated from Clarkson University with a bachelor’s degree in electrical and computer engineering. She earned her master’s degree in computer engineering from Syracuse University. She has completed advanced management programs, including the Executive Business Leadership Program at the University of Chicago and Indiana University’s Executive Marketing Program.
