This course is designed for healthcare professionals who are caring for adult hospitalized patients with a time-sensitive emergency. Through the use of case scenarios, the focus is on the rapid assessment, triage and treatment of the three most time sensitive emergencies in hospitalized adults: acute coronary syndrome, stroke and sepsis. The program will address the process of moving the patient quickly through assessment, diagnosis and evidence-based treatment protocols, along with discussion of patient safety data, measurable patient outcome criteria and improved communication with the medical-surgical staff.

Alex is Texas Health Resources’ system critical care clinical education specialist and critical care/invasive cardiac services educator at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital-Dallas. She is also the critical care/trauma service line educator at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital-Dallas. She was the first person globally to lead implementation of the American Heart Association’s innovative Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI®) program. She is an experienced critical care nurse, having practiced at the bedside for eight years prior to moving into education. Her interests include best practices in resuscitation education and innovation, care of critically ill cardiology patients and basic/advanced ECG interpretation. Alex is also a part-time instructor for Western Governors University in Utah, teaching pre-licensure nursing students in the simulation laboratory. She has been a presenter for the Dallas chapter of the AACN and has presented at several state and national nursing conferences. She was also honored as one of the 2013 Great 100 Nurses of Dallas-Fort Worth and was a 2016 winner of the D Magazine Excellence in Nursing Awards.
