Arun Slepcev

Group Head Data Analytics

Anglo American

Arun Narayanan is the Group Head of Data Analytics at AngloAmerican since 2018.

In this role, Arun is responsible for shaping and leading the implementation of Anglo American’s data analytics strategy. This strategy uses data science to further improve operational efficiencies and output of AngloAmerican, which in turn will help improve the profitability of the company, increase the safety of operations and reduce negative environmental impact. This is part of Anglo American’s innovative approach to sustainable mining, helping to shape the future of Anglo American and potentially change, for the better, how the entire mining industry operates.

Previously, Arun was the VP E&P Data, Software Integrated Solutions (SIS). In this role, Arun is responsible for defining & implementing the strategy for E&P data for Schlumberger Software. Arun was responsible for integrating asset-centric and corporate-centric data management workflows through current generation technologies and establishing a big-data platform, enabling end-to-end multi-domain workflows - leveraging data to enable workflows in the predictive analytics space.

Arun joined Schlumberger in 1997 and has been instrumental in developing the software landscape of oil and gas software. Arun lead the team that developed oil-industry’s first cloud-based offering - INTERSECT in the Cloud - and drove development as SIS towards cloud, mobility, big data, and analytics. Arun has held various technical and management positions within Schlumberger in the US and in Asia. He has, in the past, been responsible for product design, development, and marketing. He also was the general manager for the software businesses in India and Malaysia. He has over 20 years of Oil & Gas experience.

Arun holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Mumbai, a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Iowa State University of Science and Technology, and MBA’s from both the University of Houston and the University of Texas at Austin.


Chief Operating Officer

Anaconda Mining

Ms. Slepcev is the Chief Operating Officer of Anaconda Mining and is responsible for managing all operational aspects of the company and plays an integral role in tactical matters such as permitting and mine development of the Point Rousse and the Goldboro Project. Prior to her promotion, she was the Vice President of Technical Services and was directly responsible for overseeing the mining and geology departments at the Point Rousse Project in Newfoundland. In addition to a focus on delivering long- and short-term planning and geological support of the mining operation, she is also heavily involved in strategic planning and project expansion evaluations. With a Master’s Degree in Science and a Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering from the Yugoslavia (Belgrade) Faculty of Mining and Geological Engineering, combined with more than twenty years of experience in mining base metals, coal and gold, Ms. Slepcev brings invaluable industry expertise to the project. In addition to Anaconda Mining, she has held senior roles at Labrador Iron Mines Holdings, Agrium Inc. and Western Coal Corp. Ms. Slepcev is a registered professional engineer in the provinces of Ontario, Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia. She has been volunteering at CIM Toronto Education Committee, West Toronto Professional Engineers Executive Committee and at a board of Nova Scotia Mining Association.

John Mullally

Vice President Corporate Affairs and Energy


John Mullally is the VP Corporate Affairs and Energy for Goldcorp Inc, one of Canada’s largest mining companies with operations in Ontario, Quebec, the Yukon, Mexico, Chile, and Argentina. In his role, he assists Goldcorp’s Operations to integrate government relations, issues management, stakeholder relations and corporate social responsibility into their overall corporate strategies.

John is responsible for Goldcorp’s Climate Change compliance strategy and mitigation plan reduce long term exposure to carbon pricing and transition to a low carbon economy. Additionally, Goldcorp is striving to instill a culture of energy efficiency and that drive down energy consumption, GHG emissions and improve the productivity and sustainability of the business.

John previously worked for Vale, EY as a management consultant and at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris, where he was a contributor to the African Economic Outlook (AEO) – a report featuring macroeconomic analysis of the African continent. He also worked for the Canadian International Development Agency in Argentina. 
He completed a Bachelor of Commerce at Dalhousie and a MBA at INSEAD in France. He is fluent in French and Spanish and has worked and studied in over 10 countries on four continents.
