This course will assist nurses in reviewing the basic knowledge of biological, physiological, psychological and socio-cultural factors that influence the pregnant family, developing fetus and newborn. We will identify alterations in the status of the mother and the fetus and/or potential problems that could occur during the woman’s childbearing experience. We will evaluate interventions and plan of care for the complicated perinatal patient using the latest standards of care and current evidence-based practice. All of this information will be presented through lecture, open discussion and review questions to assist the nurse in preparing for the NCC Examination in Inpatient Obstetric Nursing. Elements of the exam content will be discussed in addition to pertinent topics and discussion useful in current clinical practice. After taking this course, nurses will have a comprehensive study guide useful for preparing and reviewing for the NCC exam.
