ISHLT is a leading organization providing education for medical professionals involved in heart and lung transplantation. Because of the rapid advances in medicine in general and transplantation medicine specifically, transplant professionals are in need of regular opportunities to update and maintain their knowledge of advances and changes in transplant medicine. These meetings are designed to address this need.
To enable participants to learn about current practices, emerging technologies, and medical advances related to heart and lung transplantation and end-stage heart and lung disease; and to provide a forum for participants to engage in discussion, debate, and examination regarding the efficacy and applicability of these current practices, emerging technologies, and medical advances.
The audience for these programs includes physicians, surgeons, scientists, pharmacists, nurses, transplant coordinators and other allied health and social science professionals engaged in the practice of heart and lung transplantation, the management and treatment of heart and lung transplant recipients, the management and treatment of patients with end-stage heart or lung disease, basic science or clinical research related to these fields, or specialties which cause them to become involved in the treatment of transplant recipients or patients with end stage heart or lung disease.
The ISHLT meeting will feature the latest research results through Pre-Meeting Symposia, Featured Abstracts, Invited Lectures, Concurrent Abstract Sessions, Mini-Oral Sessions and Poster Sessions presented by scientific leaders.
The majority of the meeting will be devoted to submitted content. In anticipation of contributions of high quality, novel scientific work, we plan to run concurrent oral sessions to showcase the highest scoring abstracts and mini-oral sessions and general poster sessions are planned to share other excellent submitted work with our members.
THE EXHIBITS PORTION OF THE MEETING is designed to update the health care professional’s knowledge of products, services, literature and equipment pertinent to the fields of heart and lung transplantation, advanced heart and lung failure, transplant related infectious diseases, pulmonary hypertension and related diseases and therapies. There is no better or more direct method of reaching these key contacts than the ISHLT Annual Meeting and Scientific Sessions.
Who comes to the ISHLT Annual Meeting? We are estimating from previous meeting attendance that we should have approximately 4,000 total attendees, including 3500 delegates from various specialty groups and geographic locations.
ISHLT was created in 1981 at a small gathering of about 15 cardiologists and cardiac surgeons. Today we have over 3000 members from over 45 countries, representing over 15 different professional disciplines involved in the management and treatment of end-stage heart and lung disease. This multinational, multidisciplinary mix is one of the biggest strengths of the Society. It brings greater breadth and depth to our educational offerings and provides an exceptional environment for networking and exchanging information on an informal basis.
Our members include anesthesiologists, basic scientists, cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, ethicists, immunologists, nurses, pathologists, perfusionists, pharmacists, pulmonologists, tissue engineers, transplant coordinators, and infectious disease specialists. Despite their differing specializations, all ISHLT members share a common dedication to the advancement of the science and treatment of end-stage heart and lung disease.
