Carmelo Lo Faro

President, Solvay Composite Materials

In the last 30 years Composite Materials have evolved from niche to mainstream thanks to major advances in chemistry and automation. However the industry is still not extracting the full potential of the technology to maximize performance and reduce total cost of ownership. The future adoption of composites across multiple markets will be driven by innovations in high rate manufacturing, simulation and modelling, multi-functionality and environmental sustainability.

Dr. Carmelo Lo Faro has been with the company for 20 years covering roles of increasing responsibility including Chief technology Officer for Cytec Industries and Executive Vice President Industrial Business Line and Business development for Solvay Composite Materials. In April 2017, Carmelo was appointed President of the Solvay Composite Materials Global Business Unit. His areas of expertise include business management, strategy, operational excellence, innovation, strategic alliances and composite materials technology. Throughout his career, Carmelo has been instrumental in introducing innovative materials and processes on multiple aerospace, defense and automotive programs. He holds 9 international patents and has authored several technical papers. Carmelo holds an MSc in Mechanical Engineering, a PhD in Materials Science both from the University of Catania (Italy) and an MBA from Arizona State University. He is also a certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt. He is based in the new Solvay Composite Materials headquarters in Alpharetta, Georgia.
