About SEMC

The Southeastern Museums Conference (SEMC), nonprofit membership organization, is an association of museums, museum staff, independent professionals and corporate partners. We focus on the Southeastern United State including: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Puerto Rico, and US Virgin Islands.

The Southeastern Museums Conference (SEMC) is dedicated to providing a safe, inclusive, and welcoming conference experience for everyone. We do not tolerate discrimination or harassment in any form.

The Southeastern Museums Conference is a networking organization that serves to foster professionalism, mutual support, and communication.  A non-profit membership association, SEMC strives to increase educational and professional development opportunities and improve the interchange of ideas, information, and cooperation.

The vision of SEMC is to be essential to its members and the broader museum community.

In planning for the future, SEMC should:
Develop new initiatives within the larger context of the profession and not commit organization resources to unnecessary programs and activities.
Be fiscally responsible in all its work.
Be responsive to the needs of its various audiences (Annual Meeting participants, the larger membership, and the field) and how much they are willing to commit in terms of time and money.
Encourage diversity and foster mutual respect and collegiality in all its programs and activities.
Not rely solely on quantitative measures (e.g., number of participants or costs) in assessing an initiative but recognize that value or impact may be perceived and evaluated in different ways.

SEMC should look both outward at its relationship with its members and the larger profession and inward at its structure and resources.  SEMC's Council approved a strategic plan to address those two perspectives.

Exhibitor Information & Registration

SEMC's Annual Meeting and Resource Expo are perfect formats for businesses to directly reach museum decision-makers. Museum leaders in many different disciplines include directors, curators, registrars, exhibit designers and educators. Resource Expo hours and activities are scheduled to encourage maximum traffic and exposure for your products and services.  


SEMC is launching an Exhibition Exchange Resource. This resource lists exhibitions that may be exchanged by SEMC members with no loan fees, exhibitions that can be rented from members’ institutions, and a partnership development section. The listing will include contact information for the institutions participating in the Exhibition Exchange. SEMC Member Institutions may post an exhibition or request an object on the Exhibition Exchange.
