Deputy Lead OpsLab - NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory
The Telescope of Tomorrow
Alex is the deputy lead of the OpsLab, a team at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory focused on expanding our exploration of the cosmos through the use of augmented and virtual reality technology. His recent work includes Onsight, an immersive tool for operating the Curiosity Mars Rover; Protospace, an AR tool for spacecraft design; and Sidekick, a head-mounted assistant used by astronauts aboard the international space station. Alex is also the principle inventor of the Landform photogrammetry pipeline which is responsible for generating some of the most accurate models of the Martian surface ever created.
Technology Director, Digital Innovation Organization - BP
The Cognitive Facility – “Operating in the Future” or the Many Worlds Interpretation of Operations
Mr. Dave Truch is a Technology Director in the Digital Innovation Organization (DIO) and is accountable for exploring future digital technology trajectories offering new innovative digital solutions that could enhance what BP does, disrupt what BP does or offer new business opportunities for BP.
He and the DIO team use an eco-system approach to scan the horizon for technology trends and opportunities across the globe. Through these efforts, BP has effectively used new technologies assisting them in a diverse set of activities such as water quality monitoring in the Gulf of Mexico to people tracking on the North Slope of Alaska to innovative new data analysis for predictive maintenance to advanced imaging capability for environmental monitoring of wildlife, frost heaving of pipelines and subsidence measurements, to name a few.
Currently, he and the team are very active in the arena of autonomous machines, mixed reality, industrial mobility and artificial intelligence to name a few. He received his Bachelor of Science and Masters in Physical Chemistry from the University of Calgary. Dave has a passion for hockey and continues to play in an adult league in Houston.
