Occupational and environmental hazards are a constant threat to those in active and demanding roles where often times clothing and textiles are the primary means of personal protection.  When it comes to the development and the end use of protective and safety textiles, many variables come into consideration such as new materials, innovation, research, and evaluation. This session will cover topics that are applicable to the product development, performance, and evaluation of these specialty textiles and the importance of protecting the wearer.

10:00 am - 11:30 am | Advances in Medical Textile Applications

Medical is one of the largest categories within technical textiles with a broad range of applications. But what are the specific steps to developing a new technology and what challenges do those involved face? In this session, we will provide unique perspectives - from surgical to materials and engineering, marketing and regulation - on how a medical textile goes from concept to launch.

Advanced fabrics are used for many critical applications in vehicles that travel in our atmosphere and beyond. This session will cover topics including textile composites, vehicle interiors, safety products and life support systems.

2:30 pm - 4:00 pm | New Developments in Nonwovens

This session will focus on new and emerging technologies in nonwovens manufacturing and product development. We will also focus on macro trends faced by the Nonwovens industry.

9:30 am - 11:00 am | Industry 4.0: Moving Beyond Smart Manufacturing to a Smart Textile Supply Chain

Industry 4.0 has been touted as the fourth generation of the industrial revolution which represents the potential digital transformation of the textile value chain. These cyber-physical systems monitor physical systems via sensors and the internet of things as well as utilize digital twins and data analytics to make decentralized decisions that optimize the entire system.   The panel session of academics and industry personnel will discuss the barriers, solutions, and current trends of automation and data exchange (e.g., blockchain technology) in moving towards a smart textile supply chain.
