What I Like to talk About

I bring my inspirational message of courage and personal transformation to corporate and association audiences. My story of self-discovery is a roller coaster of emotions, hilarity and entertainment. l challenge my audience members to listen to their inner voices, examine their careers and lives, and make the changes they need, but fear. I won't convince everyone in the room to quit their jobs and move to France, but that's the risk of hiring me. My presentation is ideal for anyone in a rut, anyone afraid to take risks or take the next step. It's a great way to get participants thinking about embracing change, chasing dreams, and trying new things.

As well as my Courage to Change presentation, I also offer a humorous exposé on the business of writing and publishing. I'm adept at explaining the ins and outs of getting a book ready for publication. My presentation on writing takes my audience through the process of story idea, story arc, outlining, first steps to writing, editing, agent querying and writing book proposals. A must for anyone who feels they have a story in them just waiting to get out, but are daunted by the enormity of the task.

My Background

I'm a graduate of Western University and the University of Ottawa law school. I've held high-level legal positions in government, and companies operating in the technology, finance, shipping and network marketing industries. Mid-career, I won the Richard J. Schmeelk Canada Fellowship. This financed my two-year sabbatical at Laval University in Québec City to learn French and watch hockey in bars with separatists.

At the height of my career as a lawyer, I ran away from my profession to once again live in a French milieu. This time it was a clichéd year in Provence with my family. Immersed in the French joie de vivre, my year of soul-searching convinced me to close my legal practice forever and chronicle my journey from miserable lawyer to fulfilled human being in my memoir, The Next Trapeze. Think of Eat, Pray, Love for people who need a job shakeup.

“Bill Crow is a unique and engaging speaker, with great humour and even greater humanity. He dances us through our own personal journeys of self-discovery.  Bill effortlessly weaves thought-provoking life vignettes with an uncanny connectivity with his audience….in the most wonderful and magical of ways."

IZUMI MIKI McGRUER - Regional Manager - London Life Insurance Company

“Bill shared his story with our Executive Forum.  It was a thought-provoking account of how we can all challenge our beliefs and limitations, and led to deeper discussions after his departure.  Bill was both humorous and a natural story-teller; his story included some challenges that got the audience thinking.  I highly recommend Bill and I look forward to inviting him back to another forum as guest speaker.”

JOHN PHILLIPS - Forum Chair - MacKay CEO Forums

"Recently I had Bill speak at our People & Culture conference in Vancouver, where his story fit right into our conference theme of “Exploring the Possibilities”.   Bill provided humorous insight into how one might consider different options or ways of thinking and engaged our entire group with his personal story.  We were left with a different perspective for problem solving, which was exactly what I was looking for as part of our conference content. I would definitely work with Bill again for future speaking opportunities.”
