What I Like to talk About

Dr. Hallis has dedicated her career to helping individuals and companies increase their POSITIVITY. Just a simple shift in focus changes our entire experience, whether it's with a major transition, our work, or our colleagues and customers. As an individual, this increases our enjoyment and success at work. As a company, it improves productivity, morale, and retention.

The strategies Tina shares as a speaker, trainer, and author are based in SCIENCE so you can have confidence in the information. This makes her a great fit for organizations that are skeptical of trendy personal and professional development approaches. She has first-hand experience with these strategies since she relied on them as she reinvented herself and started her own company.

As a speaker and a corporate trainer, Tina can show you and your colleagues how to:

- Improve Connection, Communication, and Collaboration by understanding & appreciating our differences
- Build resilience for less stress and more sanity during times of change
- Maximize sales results by understanding our brains and the brains of our customers

Tina is certified in Positive Psychology through the WholeBeing Institute, an Authorized Partner for Everything DiSC® and a Professional Member of the National Speaker's Association. She earned her Ph.D. in BioOrganic Chemistry from the University of Minnesota and worked for 20+ years in Biotechnology at small start-up companies and large corporations. She has great insight into the different priorities and challenges of individual departments because of her experience in R&D, operations, product management and contract services.

In 2011, Tina discovered a new science called Positive Psychology that focuses on how we can all live our best lives. She was so excited about sharing this information with others, she decided to hang up her lab coat and start her own company, The Positive Edge, with the goal of bringing this information into organizations to help improve the quality of people's work lives and the quality of company cultures.

Tina has had the opportunity to share this information with government agencies, academic institutions, hospital staff, biotech companies, networking groups, sales teams, nonprofits, and more.

My Background

I believe now, more than ever, individuals and organizations desperately need more POSITIVITY! Many people are spending their days overwhelmed with stress from deadlines, demanding customers, challenging coworkers, and too much to do. The negativity pervasive in our workplaces is hurting both the organization and the individual. That’s why I’ve reinvented myself and dedicated my career to helping people realize there is another option; we can make things better.

During my 20+ years as a scientist in Biotechnology, I worked in small start-up companies and large corporations, from R&D to Operations, and, probably like many of you, I enjoyed several great work experiences where I felt like I was adding value and having an impact. And, probably like many of you, I suffered through challenging situations that hurt my motivation and attitude<.br>
Luckily for me, two things happened. First, I discovered a new science called Positive Psychology. To me, this was so exciting because here was a science focused on how we could all live our best lives! It showed me how building our positivity could give us the necessary courage to quit a really bad job or to see more of the good aspects of a job where we were stuck focused on the negative. It had strategies I could actually use to improve my work experience, and it was information I could share to help others with theirs.

The second thing that happened was being laid off from my job as a scientist. It was a tough time for biotechnology companies and there had been many layoffs. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to do something more with this information. It was time to spread positivity to other organizations!

Based on my experience, if there’s one place we could really use help staying positive, it’s at work. So I decided to start my own company, The Positive Edge, with the goal of bringing this information into organizations to help improve the quality of people’s work lives and the quality of company cultures. The research shows it’s a win-win with happier, more resilient and productive employees and more successful organizations.

Tina was an outstanding speaker at our annual Women’s Leadership Breakfast. Our evaluations from the event were exceptional, and I continue to hear from people who were there how much they appreciated Tina’s words. We’re so happy to have had her with us.

“I can’t tell you how many people from our group made a point of going out of their way to say how much they enjoyed and appreciated your presentation and our time with you. A bunch even felt the program was specifically tailored for them.”
— Jenna Rompelman
Tech Ready Manager, OneSOURCE Document Management Services

While we have known for some time that Tina is an engaging and uplifting presenter, her help at our most recent conference goes above and beyond all expectations. Having been a presenter at our conference for 260 Human Resources Professionals the year before, this year Tina was attending as a paying guest. When one of our speakers became ill and couldn’t present, we suddenly had a large gap in our schedule to fill. I immediately sought out Tina to ask if she could do a presentation later that day. Not only did Tina graciously oblige but she also sought out our keynote presenter to align her presentation with the key elements of the keynote! After a 20 minute conversation, Tina was able to customize her presentation to complement our theme for the day and deliver a highly rated program. Brilliant! Thank you Tina for being a great presenter and the extra effort you make for your clients!
— Christopher Dyer
Morgan Data Solutions Association Management

As part of our team building day, Tina did a workshop on Maximizing the 3-C’s: Communication, Collaboration and Connection. Everyone commented that they learned a bit more about themselves that they didn’t know before having this discussion. It was great to have the day to focus on communication and tying in Tina’s presentation added that much more to learn about each other! I liked her examples of perception and communication. We had a great experience!

Practice manager, Beaver Dam Dental

Tina provided our group of volunteer coordinators from around the state of Wisconsin with the “success formula” of how we can increase our willpower to help set and achieve our goals. She explained that we need to understand our passions, make goals personal, and celebrate our small accomplishments along the way. In life, we need to anticipate obstacles, challenges, and plan ahead to understand that we can change overtime by altering our habits of thinking, acting, and responding to life’s many unknowns.

We left with valuable information knowing that it is never too late to choose, change, or tweak a goal. Tina encouraged the group to take the first step by writing down our goals and telling others and you too will notice a change in your life. We enjoyed the helpful and interesting information we received which can be applied to both our professional and personal lives to be healthier, happier, and more productive individuals.
— Anne Van Ess
Literacy & Volunteer Manager, The Volunteer Center of Brown County

Tina was very easy to work with – professional and very nice. Her presentation at our Health and Wellness event was truly wonderful – the content, slides, and mini exercises all worked so well together. We received numerous positive comments from attendees.
