The Alamodome is what is a “third generation” facility featuring column-free spans for unobstructed viewing and curtain wall system for configuration flexibility. With the Alamodome you get the advantage of both a convention center and a dome without the drawbacks of either. The Alamodome is large enough to easily accommodate any size assemblies and tradeshows.
It is the preferred venue for many trade shows, conventions and concerts such as Monster Jam, Disney on Ice, and the Valero Alamo Bowl. George Strait played a concert in the Alamodome in June of 2013 setting an all-time attendance record of 73,086 people.
With over 160,000 square feet of flexible space and capacity for over 65,000 people, the Alamdome has consistently cast its spotlights on an incredible range of entertainment and sporting events. But the opportunities don’t stop at just sporting or entertainment events. This highly accessible facility has been the preferred setting for numerous trade and consumer shows, exhibitions, corporate conventions, automobile shows, and a variety of other events, both large and small.

UIL Basketball Tournaments to Return to Alamodome in 2016 and 2017
Austin, TX (May 21, 2015) The University Interscholastic League Girls and Boys Basketball State Tournaments will return to the San Antonio Alamodome in 2016 and 2017 the League announced Thursday.
The Alamodome hosted the tournaments for the first time in 2015. San Antonio was selected partly due to competitive hotel rates and attractions, which made it the ideal destination for student athletes and fans. The UIL reached a two-year agreement that will bring the Girls and Boys Basketball State Tournaments back to the Alamodome for 2016 and 2017.
“The Alamodome was extremely hospitable and helpful during the planning phases and as the host of the UIL Basketball Tournaments this year,” said UIL Executive Director Charles Breithaupt. “We look forward to improving upon the excellent tournaments and providing a convenient, first class event at the San Antonio Alamodome.”
“Our ultimate goal has always been to create a memorable experience for the coaches, athletes, their families and fans,” said Alamodome General Manager Nick Langella. “We are thrilled with the opportunity to host the state basketball tournaments for the next 2 years, and we will continue to do everything possible to make the UIL feel at home here in San Antonio.”
The first UIL Basketball State Tournament was played in Austin in 1921. Gregory Gym on the University of Texas at Austin campus began hosting the boy’s tournament beginning in 1931, and the girl’s tournament was added in 1951. The Frank Erwin Center on the University of Texas at Austin campus hosted the boys and girls state basketball tournaments from 1978-2014.
