Overview

The convention center was designed as a multi-purpose event center that caters everything from conventions to sporting events to board room meetings. The professional event services team at the McAllen Convention Center specializes in making every event memorable, by ensuring every detail is perfectly handled. Whether you’re planning a small board room meeting, a gala, or a large conference, with 174,000 square feet of state-of-the-art, multifunctional space, we have the perfect space for your event.

The Exhibit Hall is comprised of 60,818 square feet of column-free, continuous exhibit space. The space may be arranged as a single entity, or be acoustically subdivided into two separate rooms. Each hall has its own entrance to allow self-contained movement.

Designed to be the “grandest room”, the Ballroom is 10,412 square feet of open, elegant, column-free space. The richly carpeted space can be divided into four separate rooms, each featuring state-of-the-art audio/visual, dimming, and design lighting systems. The site has 16 carpeted meeting rooms totaling over 25,000 square feet. The majority of our meeting rooms have a ceiling height of 15’0’’.

Located in center of the Rio Grande Valley, this state of the art Convention Center offers much more than just ample meeting space. The McAllen Convention Center goes beyond conventions and meetings to host the most important community events. The 18.5 acre complex hosts over 500 events each year and has an average attendance of 400,000 attendees annually.

City of McAllen Applies to Host 2016 Presidential Debate

McAllen, TX (April 2, 2015) The City of McAllen has submitted an application to the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) to be considered as a Host for one of the 2016 Presidential or Vice Presidential Debates. The McAllen Convention Center and Performing Arts Center are the proposed venues to host the event which will attract over 3,000 journalists from around the country.

McAllen is proud to apply on behalf of the Rio Grande Valley to bring the Nation’s focus on deep South Texas which has been the epicenter of many of the country’s biggest political and most pressing debates. Immigration, health concerns, border security, space exploration, trade, education, agriculture and other decisive issues are central in our dynamic, bi-cultural, bi-national region. The Rio Grande Valley, with 1.3 million people in its border region, would provide a national platform – and would be an exciting and logical place – for a Presidential or Vice-Presidential debate.

McAllen has hosted several Presidential visits and campaign stops which required short-and long-term organized logistics for the candidates, security, media and waves of large audiences. The City of McAllen, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, South Texas College and the other entities involved are very adept at putting teams together that can handle every aspect of what a debate would require, including all the new connectivity and infrastructure needed for today’s media and communications demands.

The City of McAllen is one of sixteen debate host applicants announced today by the CPD. Finalists will be announced in October later this year.
