Hyatt Launches Three Global Initiatives to Significantly Reduce Single-Use Plastics

CHICAGO (November 12, 2019) – Hyatt Hotels Corporation (NYSE: H) is announcing a series of initiatives to reduce waste at Hyatt hotels globally, including introducing large-format bathroom amenities and reducing single-use water bottles by June 2021. The following initiatives will be introduced as soon as possible in properties around the world, and no later than June 2021:

Transitioning to large-format bathroom amenities to replace traditional small bottles of shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and lotion.
Increasing the number of water stations in key public spaces at hotels for guests who wish to refill reusable water bottles.
Serving water in carafes or other containers for meetings and events; bottled water will be available by request.

“At Hyatt, our purpose – we care for people so they can be their best – guides all business decisions, including our global sustainability framework, which focuses on using resources responsibly and helping address today’s most pressing environmental issues,” said Mark Hoplamazian, president and CEO, Hyatt. “Plastic pollution is a global issue, and we hope our efforts will motivate guests, customers and, indeed, ourselves to think more critically about our use of plastic.”

These new initiatives represent a significant step in Hyatt’s global sustainability program and underscore Hyatt’s commitment to wellbeing. As promoted in Hyatt’s landmarks of wellbeing – Feel, Fuel and Function – proper hydration is essential to living well. Offering increased access to water stations across Hyatt hotels around the world will ensure guests will have hydration choices that align with both their wellbeing and sustainability priorities while traveling.

Transitioning to large-format bathroom amenities and reducing single-use water bottles builds on Hyatt’s broader commitment to reduce disposables and select environmentally preferable options whenever possible, with the exception of when single-use bottles are needed for water quality reasons.

Other recent global initiatives have included removing plastic straws and drink picks and making alternative options available only by request at Hyatt hotels, and increasing the use of compostable, recyclable, or recycled content packaging for to-go food containers.

While these global efforts ensure guests – both leisure and business – will consistently have the option to avoid single-use water bottles while staying at Hyatt hotels, many properties have already been introducing additional efforts to create best-in-class solutions. Examples include:

In-house water bottling plants that reuse glass bottles and replace single-use bottles. Hotels with this solution currently include Alila Villas Koh Russey, Alila Manggis, Alila Ubud, Alila Villas Uluwatu, Alila Bangsar, Alila Jabal Akhdar, Hyatt Regency Addis Ababa, Hyatt Regency Delhi, Andaz Costa Rica Resort at Peninsula Papagayo and Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa.
Reusable bottles distributed to all guests at check-in at resorts such as Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa, Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort, Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa, Hyatt Ziva Cancun, Miraval Arizona and Miraval Austin.
Filtered water spouts installed in all guest rooms at Park Hyatt Istanbul - Macka Palas to provide fresh drinking water.

The Park Hyatt Brand Celebrates Debut of Park Hyatt Kyoto

CHICAGO (October 30, 2019) – Hyatt Hotels Corporation (NYSE: H) announced today the opening of Park Hyatt Kyoto. Set in the heart of this noble city with centuries of history and heritage, Park Hyatt Kyoto unfolds a journey of discovery with enriching, sophisticated and rare experiences.

Park Hyatt Kyoto is located in one of the city's best-preserved historic districts, Higashiyama hills. The region, known as the birthplace of traditions such as the Japanese tea ceremony, the Ikebana flower arrangement and Japanese Zen gardens, will offer a rich foundation for the hotel. Park Hyatt Kyoto embodies the quintessential Japanese guesthouse, offering a serene Higashiyama hillside retreat for discerning global travelers and local residents. The hotel is next to Kodai-ji temple and within walking distance to many of Kyoto’s UNESCO World Heritage sites, including Kiyomizu-dera temple, and offers sweeping views of the city and Yasaka Pagoda. Park Hyatt Kyoto is located less than one mile (1.5 kilometers) from the Kyoto train station, which connects travelers to Tokyo in just over two hours via the Nozomi Shinkansen bullet train.

“We are delighted to celebrate the opening of Park Hyatt Kyoto, the second Park Hyatt hotel in Japan in 25 years, and to offer guests a refined home-away-from-home in this remarkable city,” said David Udell, group president, Asia Pacific, Hyatt. “We are grateful to the hotel’s owners, Kyoyamato and Takenaka Corporation, for their trust, support and deep understanding of luxury hospitality. Park Hyatt Kyoto is a celebration of Japanese harmony and tranquility and we look forward to seeing guests immerse themselves in the city’s inspiring heritage and culture.”

Located within the same grounds as Park Hyatt Kyoto, guests can find a historic garden with steps leading to Kyoyamato, a traditional ryotei and culinary institution which opened in 1877 and serves authentic, seasonally inspired Kaiseki cuisine. Kyoyamato, one of the hotel’s owners, is a seven-generation, family-run business and consists of several historic buildings including “Soyotei,” a teahouse from the Edo era with a private room where feudal warlords once secretly met. Its storied gardens and traditional houses complement the hotel’s modern interpretation of classical Japanese architecture and intimate hospitality.

“We are excited to introduce the Park Hyatt brand of personal and exceptional hospitality in a special place like Kyoto and look forward to unlocking the unique character of Japan’s ancient capital of high arts and craft,” said Mark de Leeuwerk, general manager, Park Hyatt Kyoto. “It has been a privilege for us to work closely with our neighbors in Higashiyama as well as the artisans and craftsmen of this beautiful city.”

Concept and Design

Park Hyatt Kyoto is a modern interpretation of Japanese hospitality steeped in culture and place, immersing guests in nature. Jointly developed by Takenaka Corporation – one of the largest architecture, engineering, and construction firms in Japan, and Tony Chi and Associates, an award-winning interior design firm – the hotel’s design and construction incorporates traditional Japanese design, architecture and artisanal craftsmanship. Several historic buildings including an Edo-era teahouse, as well as the Japanese garden that is central to the site, have been preserved and carefully restored.

Guestrooms

The low-rise hotel features 70 guest rooms, including nine suites, offering calm and respite from the bustle of Higashiyama's neighboring streets. The elegantly designed rooms and suites highlight local craftsmanship and materials such as fragrant Tamo wood, original artwork and Zen garden views.

Drinking and Dining

Park Hyatt Kyoto offers guests and visitors four distinct culinary venues:

Kyoto Bistro is a casual, street-side café featuring international and Japanese comfort food prepared with locally sourced and organic ingredients in a lively, open kitchen. All dishes are served on handmade earthenware exclusively created for the hotel by Asahiyaki, a local pottery master with a heritage of over 400 years in Uji, a city south of Kyoto.

Bathed in natural light during the day and the lingering scent of Tamo wood from the open fireplace, The Living Room welcomes guests to start their day with an authentic Japanese breakfast expertly prepared by Kyoyamato or an afternoon enjoying tea and light snacks.

Yasaka’s team of skilled chefs demonstrate their elevated cooking skills on the Japanese “teppan,” or “steel plate,” which guests can enjoy alongside the breathtaking views of Kyoto’s famous Yasaka Pagoda.

After the stimulating teppanyaki action at Yasaka, guests can head next door to Kohaku, where a fine collection of rare and craft spirits, including artisanal whiskey, sake, and gin made in Kyoto, awaits. The intimate bar exudes a warm, classic atmosphere with its dark woods and leather textures.

Events and Wedding

Park Hyatt Kyoto is positioned to be the city’s premier location for unique, timeless, and crafted experiences inspired by the tradition and majesty surrounding the hotel and the city. Alongside views of a Tsuboniwa Japanese garden, the elegant ballroom offers 2,153 square feet (200 square meters) of event space and multi-functional meeting facilities, a show kitchen, foyer and the latest audio-visual system.

Wellness

A tranquil heaven, The Spa at Park Hyatt Kyoto, has a treatment suite for two with a private bath house including Japanese-style bathtubs, as well as dry and mist saunas. The signature treatment features an original signature oil developed by Kotoshina, a Kyoto-based organic skincare brand using locally harvested green tea. The spa and adjacent wellness center are open only to guests staying at the hotel.

CHICAGO (October 7, 2019) – Hyatt Hotels Corporation (NYSE: H) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) today announced the opening of Grand Hyatt at SFO, which is now accepting guests. As the only on-airport hotel at San Francisco International Airport, the $237 million luxury hotel sits on 4.2-acres and features 351 rooms including 22 suites, 14,435 square feet of well-appointed meeting and event space, two distinct culinary concepts, and an impressive art collection that was curated exclusively for the hotel by the San Francisco Arts Commission.

“We are thrilled to open the doors to Grand Hyatt at SFO and welcome our international guests, SFO visitors and local friends,” said Henning Nopper, general manager, Grand Hyatt at SFO. “The completion of this hotel, an iconic addition to our Grand Hyatt brand, is a culmination of many years of hard work and planning by Hyatt, San Francisco International Airport, the great City and County of San Francisco, San Francisco Arts Commission, and many more supporters.”

Directly connected to all airport terminals with its own dedicated, newly constructed AirTrain station, Grand Hyatt at SFO serves as a captivating destination within a destination and elevated respite for corporate business travelers as well as leisure guests to bypass the airport bustle. The highly anticipated debut also marks a key milestone in Hyatt’s west coast expansion plan to add 40 new hotels in California, Oregon and Washington by the end of 2021.

“With the opening of Grand Hyatt at SFO, we offer travelers a new benchmark in airport hospitality,” said Airport Director Ivar C. Satero. “The new hotel reflects our commitment to deliver a world-class experience for our guests, with seamless access via our AirTrain system, sustainable building design, thoughtful service and amenities, and inspiring works of public art. My thanks go out to Hyatt, the San Francisco Arts Commission, and our entire design-build team for making this day a reality.”

CONCEPT & DESIGN

The bold, vibrant design and architecture of Grand Hyatt at SFO is the vision of San Francisco-based architect Hornberger + Worstell and associate ED21, along with two internationally acclaimed interior design firms, BraytonHughes Design Studios and RoseBernard Studio. Guests step out of the hotel’s new AirTrain station, which features a dramatic kaleidoscopic stained-glass art installation, and after crossing an enclosed bridge, they enter the hotel’s stunning, light-filled lobby where they are greeted by expansive windows and views of SFO and hills beyond.

The California Eucalyptus grove-inspired lobby invites guests to relax, enjoy a refreshment, and work among natural wood communal tables overlooking the airfield. As a subtle visual homage to the airport’s long history as an aviation gateway to and from the Pacific Rim, the marble reception desks are designed to recall a set of vintage pilot’s wings.

GUESTROOMS

Light-filled guestrooms, designed to become a sanctuary for modern travelers, counterbalance stressful travels with calm bespoke interiors, soundproofed, floor-to-ceiling windows. Each guestroom also features a Hyatt Luxury Pillowtop Grand Bed TM, flat screen TV, and elegant bathrooms. As a part of the Grand Hyatt brand’s eco-friendly tenets, Grand Hyatt at SFO offers large-format bath amenities and is working to limit single-use plastics. With the hotel’s location directly adjacent to the International Terminal and airfield, guests have the unique opportunity to enjoy magnificent moments of close-up views of airplanes.

Travelers also have the opportunity to reserve a micro stay in the hotel’s day-use rooms – the perfect solution for fly-in, fly-out conferences and daytime layovers. Day-use rates start at $125 for access to guestrooms for six hours between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.

FOOD AND BEVERAGE

Quail & Crane, the hotel’s 108-seat signature restaurant open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, boasts an open kitchen and expansive communal dining with wood floors and ceilings. Executive Chef Jesse McDannel has created a bold, multicultural menu that speaks to both the bounty of Northern California and the cooking practices and traditions of Asia. The restaurant design feels uniquely linked to the Bay Area with a direct connection to the local landscape. Accenting the experience is artwork inspired by regional landscapes and materials, resulting in one-of-a-kind pieces that feel honest, crafted, and exclusive to the Bay Area.

Twin Crafts Market & Bar is a multifunctional lounge with a 24/7 market for “on-the-go” provisions including breakfast, salads and hand-crafted sandwiches. The cocktail bar, open from 10:00 a.m. through midnight, serves up burgers, oysters on the half shell and salads, paired perfectly with cocktails, California wines and local craft beers. For dining in-room, guests may place an order for chef-inspired entrees and appetizers from the hotel’s 24-hour room service menu. The design is inspired from the Bay Area’s cityscape; details emulating urban life, from grid topography and textures, mixed eclectic architecture and cable car-inspired light fixtures to street inspired artwork, together transports guests outside SFO.

MEETINGS & EVENTS

Grand Hyatt at SFO offers 14,435 square feet of stylish meeting and event spaces with designs inspired by the bay, with deep blues and sail-like floor patterns and ceiling forms adorning the meeting rooms and hallways. All 18 event spaces, including a 5,760 square-foot Grand Ballroom with a wide selection of layout options, suitable for both weddings and meetings, are named for storied planes like the Stratocruiser and Looper. For brides- and grooms-to-be, Grand Hyatt at SFO serves as a modern, theatrical wedding venue unlike any other.

A true statement piece, Ether is a 35-foot sculpture located on site at the exterior of the hotel references weightlessness and the movement of airplanes.

Interactive gym technology, Peloton® bicycles and high-tech MIRROR, offer on-demand workouts. The fitness center’s spaces provide the opportunity for energetic light-filled workouts. Additionally, an intimate massage suite will offer a range of on-demand treatments including massages, body treatments and facials perfectly designed to combat the effects of air travel.

SUSTAINABILITY

Designed to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification (expected early 2020), Grand Hyatt at SFO’s operations reflect the sustainability missions of both Hyatt and the San Francisco Airport Commission. SFO has set a goal to become the world’s first Zero Net Energy (ZNE) airport campus by 2021, and the property is in line with this goal with a ZNE capable design. Hyatt Introduces Caption By Hyatt, A New Brand Designed to Inspire Personal Connection

CHICAGO (September 24, 2019) – Hyatt Hotels Corporation (NYSE: H) today announced Caption by Hyatt, a new lifestyle brand within the select service category that will bring people closer together, allowing them to work, eat or socialize in comfortable, flexible, communal spaces that encourage meaningful conversations and connections.

The Caption by Hyatt brand has been designed to create a location where guests feel comfortable striking up a conversation with someone new over a cup of coffee, a bite to eat or a drink at the end of the day. Caption by Hyatt hotels will be anchored by a distinctive food and beverage experience that will be a vibrant mash-up between café, market and bar. Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) consulted on the design and curation of a conversation-worthy food and beverage concept for the brand.

“At Hyatt, we believe in the power of personal connection,” said Heather Geisler, vice president of global brands, Hyatt. “By listening to our guests, we know that whether they are traveling alone or with a friend, they are looking to connect with others in an environment that is authentic and approachable. The Caption by Hyatt brand will invite guests and locals alike to hang out, enjoy a cocktail and catch up with a friend, new or old, in a space that is intended for them.”

The Caption by Hyatt brand will focus on three core promises:

Alluring and approachable spaces. Caption by Hyatt hotels will invite guests in with cozy rooms and common areas that are flexible enough to move things around and make the space uniquely theirs. Social spaces will be richly designed and unexpectedly put together – sparking conversation and giving guests and locals alike no choice but to stay awhile.
Conversation-worthy food and beverage. Eating and drinking at Caption by Hyatt hotels will be about more than what’s on the table. They will bring people together to enjoy the locale’s dynamic culture.
Experiences that don’t begin or end at the hotel’s front door. Whether guests try something new or meet someone new, Caption by Hyatt hotels will create the conditions for connections that matter – all-day drinks and sharable snacks; spaces designed for guests to plug in anywhere; flexible and multi-purpose spaces for lounging and small events; and a rotating calendar of do-it-yourself and hosted events from trunk shows to local beer tastings.

The Caption by Hyatt brand will offer the efficiency and flexibility of select service, while creating a compelling lifestyle experience that is designed to be fulfilling for guests and result in superior revenue opportunities.

“We intend for the Caption by Hyatt brand to be a global growth driver domestically and internationally in dense urban markets, emerging neighborhoods and high foot traffic areas,” said Jim Chu, global head of development for Hyatt. “We believe the brand is primed for strong growth as it can flex and adapt to suit the needs of different locations and markets and can offer a more sustainable approach to design and operations.”
