What I Like to talk About

Thrive & Excel in the New World of Work | The Age of Disruption

In the age of the never satisfied customer, multi-faceted global influences and complex economic challenges, there are companies and entrepreneurs (Destructive/Disruptive Competition) at this moment looking to reinvent the way your business is done. How many bookstores were wiped out because of Amazon.com? What happened to Kodak? Blockbuster? Sears? Woolworth’s? Nokia? Rest assured someone somewhere is about to revolutionize your industry, or your business.

We are in a brawl with few rules, where the fast, flexible, and agile will eat and spit out the slow, over-thinking, and complacent. Individuals, teams, and organizations that fail to adapt will find themselves vulnerable, uncomfortable, and at the mercy of other people, events, or the competition. In this New World of Work, quickly leveraging ideas, talent, and leadership at all levels will separate top performing organizations from the laggards.

In today’s commoditized surplus economy, where customers have more choices than ever, what will it take to ensure your products and services are scintillating and memorable?

  • Learn to differentiate in a sea of sameness. Distinct or extinct?
  • Develop tenacity, resolve and agility to secure your spot in the New World of Work.
  • Arouse a sense of purpose and passion among your employees.
  • Understand why many individuals, teams and organizations are losing in the New World of Work.
  • Build, enhance and grow your desired ‘brand.’
  • Cultivate a workforce that is connected, aligned and delivers your ‘brand promise.’
  • Capitalize on the untapped potential of your existing top-talent – inspire extraordinary performance.

Accelerate Change | Achieve What Matters Most

In the past, change was episodic, transient, and gradual; now, change is constant as business, technology, and society itself continue to evolve at an ever more rapid pace.  Accelerating Change – igniting engagement, passion, ownership and creativity that is often lacking during times of change, can be accomplished using proven memorable and pragmatic principles. Learn why some organizations achieve and exceed desired results.

Leading change has become a critical competency in today’s economy. But there is a significant and crucial difference between leading and managing change – not only in the approach, but also more importantly in the results. The success, or lack thereof, with transformational change efforts hinges on a few key principles that have been identified, studied and validated.

Nearly 75% of large-scale change efforts fail, or produce mediocre results. By implementing proven change principles that have allowed teams and organizations around the globe to accelerate and sustain desired change, you gain a competitive advantage.

  • Avoid the primary pitfalls and traps that sabotage most change efforts.
  • Intensify agility, resilience and perseverance.

Ignite Peak Performance | Create Your Optimal Culture

Culture, simply put, is the convergence of the way your employees think and act. That culture is producing your organization’s every result (financial, operational, customer, employee, etc.). If your future desired results are loftier, more difficult, of just different than those you are achieving today, will your current culture be able to deliver?  Most often, the results teams and organizations must achieve in the future will require employees to think and act differently. Creating those ‘shifts’ in how employees think and act is what will propel your team or organization toward those desired results.

Your culture is your ‘brand.’  The experiences your culture creates (the manner in which your employees think and act) will either reinforce that current ‘brand’ or evoke a new one. You can either lead your culture, or it will lead you. An organization’s (or team’s) culture is either an engine propelling it toward it’s desired results, or an anchor impeding and hindering it’s progress. You can define, lead and shape your optimal culture.

  • Learn how to create shifts in the way employees think and act so that your desired culture will flourish and heighten organizational performance.
  • Understand how to identify the root cause of undesired cultural beliefs and actions, and how to infuse desired beliefs and actions.
  • Discover how to gain voluntary commitments from colleagues so they self-select desired actions - Stop wasting time enforcing compliance around policies and procedures.
  • Develop a culture where employees ‘bring more of themselves’ to the workplace – trigger innovation, creativity and passion.
  • Create organizational laser-like focus on what matters most – eliminate confusion, misunderstanding, miscommunication, mistrust, frustration and indifference.
  • Acquire principles and tools to help you clearly define and then establish your optimal culture.

Achieve With Accountability | Develop a High Performing Team or Organization

Accountability is the Catalyst to: Accelerated Change, Robust Employee Engagement, Intensified Ownership, Relentless Perseverance, Impeccable Alignment, and propels individuals, teams and organizations to intoxicating heights of achievement and success. • Discover the 4 keys to accountability, along with the observable best practices.
  • Cultivate the agility, flexibility and resiliency to adapt and thrive during constant change.
  • Foster collaboration, camaraderie and teamwork – Establish unshakable trust and credibility.
  • Intensify ownership, engagement and alignment – Crumble silos and abolish territorialism.

Testimonials

I first met Mike at an industry event in Florida.  I was so moved by his presentation that afterwards I shook his hand and told him that he just changed my life forever. About a month later I invited him to make a similar presentation for our company during our annual Christmas luncheon.  Mike presented to over 225 guests and that were engaged and motivated.  The next day he made a full day presentation to 40 of our managers and sales team.  Our team is still talking about the event and quoting lines from his book.

-Navid Yavari, CEO, PAI Industries

Mike Evans participated as a keynote speaker in The IIA’s General Audit Management Conference.  His leadership presentation really resonated with the audience of executives in internal audit.  Mike is one of our highest rated speakers and as a result is being asked back to present at the All Star Conference which is the conference where we showcase encore presentations from the highest rated speakers.  This is a great testament to his ability to provide an audience with practical strategies, tools and techniques for positive outcomes in their practice setting.  I look forward to future opportunities to include Mike in The IIA’s conference programs.

-Sheena Majette, Managing Director, Conferences, IIA

Mike, in over 30 years of attending conferences, seminars and breakout sessions I have never seen anyone captivate an audience for an entire day the way you do.  Your high energy, interactive style ensures that everyone in attendance will pay full attention to what you say.  Your ability to draw parallels from the examples you give to the topic you have been tasked to discuss ensure that the time they spend listening will be rewarded.  The response from all who attended was overwhelmingly positive and they asked that we have you do more of these sessions in the future.  I can’t imagine a higher compliment than that from our group.  The upfront legwork that you put in to clearly understand the goals we wanted you to meet went a long way towards a highly successful outcome.  You definitely made a great impression and had the desired impact.  I have already recommended you to my colleagues.

-Greg Klein, CEO, ITPC

I have never seen a group respond to a speaker the way they did with Mike’s talk. Not only did he fully engage the audience for the entire (too short) time allowed, every conversation I had with attendees afterward included comments on the dynamic inspiration he provided. I am sure many of those present will go on to make meaningful leadership contributions as a direct result. Thank you, Mike!

-David Champlin, SVP, Stewart & Stevenson

His unique insights have positively affected me, both personally and professionally.  His work on accountability will stop you in your tracks, almost forcing one to self-reflect and make changes regarding what matters most. You gave me the courage to step out into the unknown, to take responsibility for what was happening to me and around me, to see that there are other options.  So, thank you for that.

-Pam Jamieson, Director, Department of Defense

No, thank you!!!  You made us look good! We should be thanking you! We had the best speaker evaluations ever!  And we have been conducting this conference for 27 years.  The group loved you and your keynote was so engaging, inspirational and best of all – educational.  Even the hotel staff stopped in their tracks to listen.  Our photographer forgot to take photos because he was so engaged.  And you weren’t high-maintenance, which is an extra bonus J

We are happy to recommend you to anyone!

-Josie Collins, Director Events, NAFCU

Mike, I found your keynote relevant and extremely practical. Your PowerPoints were brilliant, on point, and flowed creatively with your presentation. This was certainly not your first rodeo! Your ability to engage the audience was artful. No one could have left your presentation without meaningful content that made a difference in their life… and the lives of those they serve. Well done!

-Lyndon Risser, CEO, DynaTech

We had Mike Evans as the Keynote speaker at our Annual Meeting for 2018. His presentation was a valuable asset at a time when our home building company is poised for extensive growth over the next 24 months. While engaging our team of just under 100 Associates, Mike encouraged us to be accountable to ourselves and the firm and gave us numerous takeaways that will improve both management and their teams. He was entertaining and funny too!

-Jay Goldberg, VP, Sales & Marketing, Traditions of America

Mike gave an exceptional presentation at our Annual Spring Conference. He was very engaging and connected with our attendees throughout the entire keynote. Our members overwhelmingly rated him one of the top presenters we’ve had, and several are looking to bring him to their own meetings.

-Emily Hartstone, Manager of Conferences, EGSA

Mike – super job on your Keynote Talk “Disruption – Excel and thrive in the New World of Work”.  As the Conference Planning Chair and a Member of the Board of Directors of the Electrical Generating Systems Association (EGSA), I can tell you that you were one of the best and most dynamic keynote speakers we have ever had.  The Speaker Evaluations were reviewed and to my knowledge, we have never had a speaker get a 100% score, until your talk – all “6 out of 6” on the ratings.  Very relevant topics kept the audience talking about “disruption”, in the hallways, exhibit halls and reception.

-Martin Morrill, Conference Chair, EGSA

Mike, what more can I say, we gave you a challenging assignment; communicate to a group of scientists, help them develop themselves and stay accountable, and I must say you delivered every time. My customers were thrilled and energized by your style and delivery. Countless positive evaluations were received from our customers highlighting your session as most valuable.

-John Dimare, SVP, Agilent Technologies

Mike…..I have attended numerous sessions over my last 30 years given by speakers from all over the world.  Simply put….You are one of the best.  Your content and style energized my team, the entire group, and myself!  Thank you for taking the time to inspire us and motivate us to be better leaders.

We had a tremendous amount of positive feedback from both our distributors and employees on your presentation. They were chasing me down following the session to get your contact information. I know I got a lot out of it. Thanks again for a great professional presentation with a ton of learning!  I really appreciate you taking the time to tailor the presentation to drive our desired outcomes. You nailed it!

-Mike Catalina, General Manager, Huttig

Thank you for your excellent presentation. The feedback from the entire leadership team of more than 350 was very positive and they were energized by your presentation. The material and presentation was absolutely powerful and engaging. Our leaders were able to apply what they learned to their daily routines.  As always, it is a pleasure to work with someone who is professional, articulate and bright – and to partner with someone who makes every effort to understand our business model and key issues and imbed them into your presentation.

-Todd Haines, SVP, Human Resources, PharMerica

I'm definitely looking forward to some additional conversation. Your message last night and again this morning is totally in line with all the things we have going on within my organization. That was the best session I have ever attended in my 32 years in business. I will be reaching out to you soon.

-Mike Wardlow, SVP, Cedar Creek

Mike is the first and only external speaker that we have engaged with who invested the time to come to our corporate office and spend the day with our team to get a full understanding of our company culture and initiatives. Mike then infused all of those key learnings and messages into the program that he shared with our team!  The credibility that created was engaging and inspiring to our team!  He felt like one of our own! Simply the best keynote speaker we have had.

-Brian Dein, VP, Operations, Rite Aid

Thank you for your willingness to meet and work with us on your own time to customize and create an amazing event. Your informative and inspirational presentations and messages resonated with the entire audience.  I have heard some very positive accolades about your keynote and your expertise. The group was thrilled - and that is saying something.  We have had many speakers present to this group over the years. You were by far the best we have had.

-Rob Curry, CEO, CVHP

Your keynote was very well received. We could not be more pleased with your presentation and the outcome. Both the Masonite team and our customers were extremely pleased with the content and delivery. We received plenty of positive feedback. It was a pleasure working with you. Thanks again!

He incorporated our feedback masterfully with his research and experience to deliver an A+ program for our team. Mike’s style is engaging, direct and challenging, fun, educational and encouraging as well. We all left feeling inspired and better equipped to lead our team and achieve our maximum potential.

We received exceptional reviews from our customers about your keynote. Many people have asked how to connect with you so they can have you work with their firms. They were blown away with your style and expertise. Everyone gained a lot from the event. Thanks again for being such a pleasure to work with. We will surely have you back.

-Todd Apple, COO, Advisar

Mike, it was a pleasure working with you before, during and after our annual user's conference.  We weren't sure what to expect bringing in a non-industry speaker, but you exceeded the expectations of both our planning committee, our board members and our attendees.  Your keynote was timely and the perfect topic for Unite2019. You have a lot of new fans in the credit union world!

-Amber Harsin, Chief Product Officer, CUProdigy

Our members are work hard, play hard people who don't like to sit in a meeting room. Mike not only kept their attention he garnered the best feedback for a speaker in the 9 years I've been doing events. I highly recommend.

-Scott Tetz, Executive Director, ITPA

Thank you for the outstanding presentation at our Fall Training Meeting. I appreciate the time you put in before the session to meet with the Division Leaders to discuss what we were hoping to get out of the session and what challenges our team was facing. Your personal touch added another layer to your presentation that helped to keep the team focused and engaged. The feedback that I received was that this was the best meeting they have attended and that hey were able to walk away from the session with key learnings that they could apply right away.

-Lisa Ford, Senior Manager Training and Development, Rite Aid

Mike what a way to command an audience of sales drivers and key stakeholders in our business. We had a diverse group of participants, from store management up to senior executives and you had a impact on them all. From my vantage point, you commanded the audience, the material was spot on and related to our business environment. I was very impressed at how you engaged a crowd that large. Thank you for inspiring me  personally to be the best leader I know I can be.

-Kevin Park, Regional Manager, Bob’s Discount Furniture

We needed someone to come in and jump-start implementation of a new strategic plan for our credit union.  Mike was exceptional and really delivered a message that excited the staff, helped to generate enthusiasm, and he was very engaging.  The presentation built on the strategic planning process that everyone had just gone through.  Staff identified not only from an employee perspective, but on a personal level, how accountability should be a part of all aspects of our lives.  We will definitely have him back in a follow-up session.  We could have gone well beyond the two hours that we had allocated.

-Michelle Thorne, President/CEO, American United Federal Credit Union

Mike’s presentation to our group regarding Leadership was exactly what was needed!  He was energetic, educational, motivating, inspiring and entertaining! Mike nailed it in relaying the importance of staying “relative” in an ever-changing business and technological environment (“become distinct or extinct” were his exact words).  Thank you for sharing your insight and experience!

-Cindy Lomprey, Executive Team, Cashman Equipment

I was looking for a speaker to discuss Accountability with our management team.  From the moment I reached out to Mike (on LinkedIn), he was accommodating and walked me through a smooth preparation process to customize the workshop to our needs.  Honestly speaking, it was a gamble to bring in an outside person but our management team loved him!  He delivered a great workshop and I am still receiving good feedback.  Most importantly, I hear the concepts he presented being used and managers are staying “accountable” to what they’ve learned.

-Roz Smith, Talent Manager, Enterprise Holdings

In my current role, I work with outsourced partners and holding them accountable to meeting our goals and expectations can be challenging. Unlike managing direct reports where you may have progressive discipline and other consequences to poor performance to lean on, you don’t have the same protocol/employer-employee relationship, so holding them accountable is even more difficult.  Understanding the difference between compliance and commitment hit home with me.  Our partners meet ‘minimum’ goals based on what is ‘contracted’ but how do we move them from compliance and meeting the minimums outlined in the contract towards commitment to wanting to perform better. Mike’s presentation gave me some tools to use in future conversations to help the partners have ownership in their performance and therefore, push themselves to perform at higher levels.
